Thoracic Surgery at Northwestern Medicine Regional Medical Group

Board-certified thoracic surgery with a team approach to care

If you require chest surgery, you will find comfort and confidence in the thoracic surgery team at Northwestern Medicine Regional Medical Group. The team includes two dedicated, board-certified thoracic surgeons, including one who is specially trained in minimally invasive da Vinci® robotic-assisted thoracic surgery.

Our physicians treat the following conditions, among others:

  • Abnormalities of the chest wall (pectus excavatum)
  • Benign and malignant tumors of the lung, esophagus, and mediastinum
  • COPD and emphysema
  • Excessive sweating of the palms and face (hyperhidrosis)
  • GERD
  • Hernias (Hiatal, Hyperhidrosis)
  • Lung cancer
  • Lymph node enlargement (adenopathy)
  • Pleural effusion
  • Thoracic outlet syndrome
  • Thymoma
  • Lung nodules

Minimally Invasive Robotic-Assisted Surgery

da Vinci® Surgery is safe and effective, providing a less invasive treatment option - even for the most complex cases. The da Vinci® Surgical System allows your doctor to perform delicate and complex operations through a few tiny incisions with increased vision, precision, dexterity and control. This approach results in a quicker and easier recovery, reduced risk of infection and smaller incisions. Traditionally, similar conditions have required a procedure called thoracotomy, which involves a long incision and breaking open the rib cage to access the lung.

Advanced Cancer Care, Close To Home

The commitment to cancer care is exemplified by our state-of-the-art facilities – the Northwestern Medicine Cancer Center Warrenville and the Northwestern Medicine Cancer Center Delnor. Close by you will find the Northwestern Medicine Proton Center,** the first and only facility of its kind in Illinois. Proton therapy uses protons instead of traditional photons to precisely target tumors, resulting in less damage to surrounding healthy tissue.

**The Northwestern Medicine® Proton Center (Center) is a joint venture between various Northwestern Memorial HealthCare subsidiaries and Radiation Oncology Consultants, Ltd. Both organizations are dedicated to providing proton therapy in Illinois. The physicians that practice at the Center are neither agents nor employees of Northwestern Memorial HealthCare nor its subsidiaries. They have chosen this facility as the place they wish to care for and treat their private patients.
